Hurricane Dorian

8/29/2019 (Permalink)

With all the talk about the hurricane heading towards Florida, has it gotten you thinking about what you would do in an emergency? Here are a few items to keep in an emergency kit if the power is out, or if you are stuck in your home for a few days.

  1. Make sure there is one gallon of water per person for at least 3 days. This water will be needed for drinking and sanitation.
  2. Have enough non-perishable food for at least three days and a manual can opener.
  3. A battery powered radio to hear for any updates on the situation.
  4. Flashlight and extra batteries
  5. First aid kit
  6. Whistle to signal for help
  7. Dust mask to filter contaminated air
  8. Plastic sheeting and duct tape to potentially build a shelter
  9. Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  10. Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

You should have a kit in your home, car, and at work. You can never be too prepared for a disaster to happen and may not always be at home when it does. Make sure everyone is aware of where the kits are located so anyone can use them if needed.
